Ruhr Museum

The Ruhr Museum Essen in the former coal washing plant of the Zollverein colliery has been one of the top sights in the Ruhr region since it opened in the RUHR.2010 Capital of Culture year. The Ruhr Museum is not a classic industrial museum, but rather a regional museum of the Ruhr region and thus a memory and showcase of the region. Its location at the Zollverein Coal Mine World Heritage Site already plays a special role. The longest free-standing escalator in Germany leads you into the interior of this extraordinary museum-like industrial monument.
